Inside UMA: Nick Jianas

Like many of our leaders, Nick Jianas started at United Medicare Advisors as a sales agent. In this role, he was often found conceptualizing new processes and running reports, trying to solve problems on his own.

Now as Director of Business Intelligence, he uses that extensive knowledge and passion for building better models to implement change at UMA.

What does your team do?

We have a team of analysts that work very closely with our sales managers to implement new models designed to help our sales teams help their clients more efficiently. They look into the research and data to figure out how to improve our systems and to create better models for our sales department.

How does that help our clients?

We make sure that our sales agents have the best possible tools to do their job the best they can. We also are in charge of investigating new carriers and keeping our business competitive so our clients can save the most money.

What do you like about your job?

Our leadership asks for opinions and then follows through on them, which was a completely new experience for me. When our leaders ask questions, they are genuinely looking for answers and better ways of doing things. I feel more valuable because what I do is heard and implemented.

Also, our leadership is fairly flat, meaning there’s a lot of conversations between people at all levels. This allows us to innovate faster and more efficiently because everyone can be a part of the change process. By doing this, we are able to constantly be on the forefront of new innovations in the field and giving our clients the best possible outcomes.

How do you stay up-to-date with best practices?

Besides listening to my team, I take advantage of the growth opportunities our company provides. Our leaders constantly encourage us to go to conferences or partake in webinars that can help us get better at our jobs.

OK enough about work—what keeps you busy outside of UMA?

I have a five-and-a-half-year-old daughter who keeps me very busy. Currently her two favorite things are swimming and animals, so we visit a lot of zoos and swimming pools on the weekends. Besides that, I like to sleep … anyone with a five-and-a-half-year-old understands what I mean by that.
