Inside UMA: Kate Bartram

When Kate Bartram was growing up, she wanted to be a marine biologist. But after a few required science classes and a bit of a culture shock, she realized that maybe her dreams would be better off as that—dreams. Instead, she followed in her father’s footsteps into the field of marketing and now shines at United Medicare Advisors as our email marketing manager.

Though not as exciting as swimming with dolphins, she enjoys spending her days finding creative solutions to complex problems and helping clients along the way.

What exactly do you do in your role?

I handle the strategy, execution, and end-goal reporting of our email marketing efforts. This includes building emails and finding ways to reach our clients in a helpful, meaningful way.

What do you like about your job?

I enjoy being involved in the sales and education process and helping clients understand the value we add to it. Clients have different mediums that they prefer—whether it’s phone calls, emails, or direct mail—and I like being able to analyze the results after we send emails to figure out ways to better help our clients reach their goals, while also reaching our own.

How do you help clients?

Email marketing is another way of providing value to our clients. Medicare is a complex topic that involves a lot of moving pieces. We focus on tailoring our content to be something that is actually valuable to our clients, rather than annoying, whether that means Medicare news, specific plan information, or general communication. We are very intentional in what we send out via email.

How do you reach your own goals?

The role I’m currently in is brand new to our company, which gives me a lot of freedom to try new things and be truly involved in the strategy and decision making. We are a very collaborative and supportive department, so every step along the way I feel encouraged to be the best I can be. The freedom matched with the support really allows me to excel.

Enough about emails—what do you do outside of work?

I like to exercise, but I also like to watch a lot of Netflix … it’s all about the balance. Sometimes I even do them at the same time, which connects my hobbies and makes me feel better about my guilty pleasures.

What’s something on your bucket list?

As a wishful marine biologist, swimming with dolphins is still something on my bucket list. I don’t even care where, as long as there are dolphins there.
